As an educator in the Big Sky Country of Montana, you can set yourself apart from many of your peers by earning a graduate Education degree. Below you will find a list of the colleges and universities in Montana that offer nationally accredited Master’s degree programs in Education.


Montana State University – Billings
College of Education

Montana State University Billings offers students many options when it comes to Master’s level graduate degrees. They offer students a wide range of specialty areas.

The College of Education offers a Master of Education degree in the following specialization areas:

  • Early Childhood
  • Educational Technology
  • Curriculum and Instruction
  • Reading
  • School Counseling (K-12)
  • Interdisciplinary Studies – Special Education
  • Interdisciplinary Studies – Theory & Practice

They also offer a Master of Science in Special Education. They offer two options. The Generalist Option is for graduate students who already have teaching degrees but have no undergraduate training in Special Education. The Advances Studies Option is for graduate students who have undergraduate teaching degrees in Special Education.

University of Montana – Missoula
Phyllis J. Washington College of Education and Human Sciences

The University of Montana’s Phyllis J. Washington College of Education and Human Services has five specialty area departments that offer Master’s degrees in the field of Education. The academic departments include:

  • Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders
  • Department of Counselor Education
  • Department of Curriculum and Instruction
  • Department of Educational Leadership
  • Department of Health and Human Performance

The Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders offers a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology. The degree prepares graduates for licensure and certification as speech-language pathologists.

The Department of Counselor Education offers two Master’s degree programs: Master of Arts in School Counseling and Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health. Both of these programs are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs.

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers many Master of Education programs:

  • M.Ed. in Elementary Education
  • M.Ed. in Curriculum Studies with Initial Teacher Licensure for K-8 Elementary Education

The Department of Educational Leadership offers a Master of Education in Educational Leadership to prepare graduates for a Montana Class 3 Administrative License or a K-12 Principal Endorsement.

The Department of Health and Human Performance offers three different Master’s degree curriculum tracks. The three tracks offered are:
